Assessment Description:
This task is the first part of a two-part research project.
For Assessment 1, you will compile an annotated bibliography of quality research sources. The sources must be
relevant to the subject of the essay you intend to write for Assessment 2.
How to complete the assessment:
Step 1: Select a subject of your choice in line with the theme of the Design History and Theory 2 course. Explain
your subject in 200 words.
Step 2: Identify four high quality academic resources that explore the subject. Your sources should include:
– at least one book (printed or e-book);
– at least one peer-reviewed journal article (printed or available online);
– the other sources (printed or available online):
• industry magazines;
• newspaper articles;
• exhibition catalogues;
• documentaries;
• interviews;
• podcasts.

Wikipedia articles must not be used for scholarly purposes.

For each source you will write 200 words explaining why it is relevant to the subject you identified in Step 1. In
order to complete the task you need to become familiar with the selected sources; although you may not be able
to completely read the books or articles by the date of submission of Assessment 1, you need to have a clear
idea about their themes, specific issues and contexts raised, arguments made and/or examples addressed. All
references should be formatted according to the APA style, including list of references, in-text citations and
quotations.
Prior to submission, you will undertake a number of in class activities that will help you select a relevant topic of
research and identify valid scholarly resources.
