Analysis of Gloucester Resources Limited Press Statement

Executive Summary

This study analysed a press statement released by Gloucester Resources Limited, the company implementing the Rocky Hill Coal Project, targeting the local community. The study finds that the press statement was meant to manage and change public opinion about the court’s decision to refuse the license for the project. The press statement used the public information model, which was limited in attaining the objectives because it could not deeply engage the local community. The aim of the press statement could be explained through the co-orientation model because the company aimed at achieving congruency and agreement with the local community about the environmental impact of the project, based on the content of the press statement.
