Balaklava Town Centre was chosen for this project because it has a high potential for improvement on different aspects like movement, streetscape, density, and even in land use.  Being on the south bank of Wakefield River and only 25 km east of Port Wakefield, the site has huge potential for future developments as a transport hub as well as a tourist attraction (Wakefield Regional Council 2007b). To understand how the site can be improvement, a critical analysis is required.

Balaklava Town Centre is located 92 kilometers north of Adelaide and lies in the Mid North region. It is strategically located along the south bank of Wakefield River and only 16 miles from Port Wakefield. It is under the control of Wakefield Regional Council. It lies on the busy Balaklava to Port Wakefield Road, one of the loads mostly from the port.  It is the administrative center with a large catchment area.
