Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC)

For the better part of her history, Cambodia has suffered from worse human rights violations. One of the worst periods in this tumultuous history was the Khmer Rouge regime between 1975 and 1979, which was accused of some of the atrocious violations of human rights (Hughes & Elander, 2016). As a way of helping the country to recover from this past, Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC) was established to try senior leaders who were responsible for the serious crimes during this period when the country was referred to as Democratic Kampuchea. ECCC has had mixed achievements and challenges up to date, but it remains the right step towards helping the community overcome the atrocities of this period. This study will look at the achievements and limitations of ECCC in terms of reparation.

The feedback of the reflective essay is below:
Your argument on developing customary practices into state-building was good, but you needed to develop it further. The Trinadade reading really went into a lot of depth in this area, so this would have been really good to incorporate.
It’s also difficult to give you any more marks because Rwanda is not a country we cover in this subject, and you needed more readings to develop this comparison.
When writing, it’s also good to first describe what you want to say, and then explain why this is important. This will put you in good stead for your next essay.
