1. What is the aim of your study? What are the objectives for your study?
To examine the factors that affect talent retention in the private sector in HK with a focus on Shun Tak
Holdings
2. Explain the rationale for this study (refer to relevant research literature in your response).
This research has been chosen due to the high rate of employee turnover in the private sector. High employee
turnover in HK’s private sector is not a matter of finances. This study was proved by a study conducted by AON in
2012 that revealed that employee turnover rate was 18.9% despite continuous increase in salaries in HK’s private
sector. Therefore, this study was selected to investigate what causes high turnover rates and how it can be addressed.
3. Provide an outline of your study design and methods.
Survey design will be used to gather quantitative research data. Data collection will be done through
structured questionnaires. Research Onion suggested by Saunders et al (2012) will be used in the study:
Research Philosophy: Positivism research philosophy will be used because it views research as a method
truth discovery to understand the reality as well as to make predictions and generalizations.
Research Approach: Deductive research approach will be used in the study because the study aims at
testing a research hypothesis rather than developing a theory as the case of inductive approach.
Research Strategy: A survey research strategy will be used in the study. Survey strategy will be used
because it gathers data from a large sample size and it is easy to analyse quantitative data.
Research Choices: A mono method choice will be used whereby only quantitative data will be collected
and analysed to test the research hypothesis.
Techniques and Procedures: Questionnaire method will be used to collect data. Since I work at Shun Tak
Holdings it will be easy to gather data. Random sampling method will be used whereby participants will be
selected randomly. Pearson’s correlation, regression, and measures of central tendency such as mean
and standard deviation quantitative data analysis methods will be used to analyse data.
4. Please provide a detailed description of the study sample, covering selection, sample profile,
recruitment and if appropriate, inclusion and exclusion criteria.
A sample of 50 participants will be selected. Participants will be selected randomly whereby I will stand at
the gate of the company and select participants as they go home. The study will cover the employees from
different departments. No employee will be surveyed more than once; all employees are qualified for the
study regardless of their department or status.
5. Are payments or rewards/incentives going to be made to the participants? Yes No
If so, please give details below.
6. Please indicate how you intend to address each of the following ethical considerations in your
study. If you consider that they do not relate to your study please say so.
Guidance to completing this section of the form is provided at the end of the document.

participate

party to informed consent.
