A well organised and relevant set of data and information,
assembled in journal format based on individual research
describing the type and nature of business carried out by
an organisation under study; along with suggested
changes and recommendations for improvement to that
organisation’s systems, processes and ways of working.
Assessment Brief:
The Journal should consist of 5 entries and reflect professionalism in data and information
collection, knowledge management, and objective reporting of the outcomes of field
research and related desk top research activities by:
1. Providing a well organised and relevant series of logged entries in journal format,
describing the outcomes of individual research into an organisation.
2. Outlining the student’s field and desk-top research on the type, nature, operations
and functioning of the organisation.
3. Describing research methods undertaken in an organisation and the outcomes of that
research by way of insights, conclusions.
4. Providing a set of recommendations for improvement, or changes to the
organisation’s ways of working.
5. Bringing together weekly research results to support the construction of a Project
Report.

The Journal will be assessed according to the marking criteria outlined for this assignment
with marks awarded for each entry using the criteria listed.
Below are details of the subject areas to be addressed within your journal.
Week 1: Organisational Chart and Explanation
Research and source or create an organisational chart in a picture form that describes your
organisation’s way of working. Describe the type and nature of the organisation, as well as
the industry context in which it operates. Explain your connection to this organisation.
Week 3 : Data gathering plan, interview techniques and ethical responsibilities
Research and identify different research methods available and write an entry on the
methods you intend to use and why. Write a comparison of two interview techniques you
have studied this week, identifying the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Outline the ethical responsibilities associated with collecting and storing data for research
purposes.
Week 7 – Mindmap Your Research Problem and Research Tools: Due Sunday of Week
7:
Submit a mind-map of your project.
• Inner Layer: The business issue your project is trying to solve
• 1st Layer: Possible causes of the issue
• 2nd Layer: break causes into smaller, researchable parts
• Outer Layer: How the possible causes will be researched (be specific about research
methods and data types).
The map should be accompanied by 200-300 word explanation, to ensure the reader
understands what the map shows.
Use colours, shapes and arrows etcetera to make it clear and visual.
Week 10 – Secondary Research Sources: Due Sunday of Week 10:
Use the mind map created for the Week 7 Journal Entry to show relevant sources of
secondary information for your project.
For each node on your mind map, provide a full APA style reference to a credible secondary
source of information. Make sure the reader can clearly see which to node/s each source is
connected.

1. This assignment must be prepared and submitted by the individual student, the work you
submit must be your own, and based on your own work.
2.Weekly Journal entries should be brief (between 300 and 400 words), well structured and
professionally presented, treated confidentially, and be relevant to the research project
3. A suitable reference list should be included showing sources of any textbooks, websites,
press releases, business reports, social media, or other references related to material you
plan to use in the preparation of your journal entries.
4. You should ensure that due ethical considerations are paid to the gathering of data, the
holding and presentation, release of information in your journal entries.
