Rationale: A working knowledge of the media is critical in media relations. Three key skills are being tested in this assignment: your ability to research the media, your ability to select a relevant medium for your topic, and your understanding and application of news values. Part A  – Select your media outlets.

 

Select your media releases that you intend to submit for marking. Next, research and identify THREE media outlets you think would be interested in the story. List the media outlets by name, specific ‘round’ or position if relevant (e.g. ‘Sports Writer’, ‘Literary Editor’, or ‘Producer’) contact details (such as email, phone) and location. Part B – Prepare your client for the interviews (based on your selected media release)

 

  1. Describe a photo or vision opportunity if appropriate (50-100 words – see example below).

VISION OPPORTUNITY:

 

A group of 100 Griffith University students preparing their bikes at the start of the fund raising event. Among them is Alf – the group’s cherished mascot dog – who will ride along in a special stretcher-style backpack attached to Anna Boland. Anna rescued the year-old West Highland Terrier who had been dumped on Mt Tamborine. She spent countless nights treating his injuries with bandages donated by the RSPCA. Ok darling, we are so excited you are promoting this event for all of us at Undress
Runways. Our first big mission is of course to promote our huge national event – but
in order to have an event, we need money! So this media release needs to be about
our event – yes, of course, but also about the role people can play in helping to fund
it. And the best, most fabulous bit is that we can offer something in return to our
gorgeous, wonderful supporters. Last year we managed to make $20,000 from
crowd funding, and everyone had a blast at our amazing show. When you arrive you
will be greeted with organic cocktails, sushi market stalls, schmoozing with
environmentally passionate celebs, and the clothes … oh, the clothes! Some of the
world’s most stunning designers who have devoted their art to creating fashion that
is sustainable as well as highly innovative. There will be a grand array of pre-loved
and vintage garments, as well – it’s all part of sustainable fashion, darling.
So what IS Undress Runways, you ask? Well, let me tell you! I will start with a
question to you – how sustainable is your wardrobe? We are bringing sustainable
fashion to the runway, darling! We are a fashion runway show with a difference.
Our Undress Runways shows showcase the stunning creations from designers
around the world – day-wear, swimwear, evening wear, lingerie! But it’s more than
that – it’s about changing expectations about fashion – where ethical business

Imagine wearing organic fabrics, dyed with turmeric and red wine, beetroot and
pandan – where nothing is wasted. Bamboos, silks, hemp, sustainable cotton, and
the most exquisite wool fabrics. So we bring all of these gorgeous designs to
Australia in one big show – hosted in Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney – and for the first
time in 2018, the Gold Coast! How can we be more sustainable with fashion?
Recycling garments, instead of throwing them out! And taking time to think about
where your clothes from – who made them, under what conditions – and how were
they made? We’d like to see the end of factory collapses, environmental destruction,
and unethical production. We believe that you can look good responsibly and
ethically. Where nothing is wasted in order for you to look stylish, where natural
fibres are used, where garments are dyed with foods rather than toxic chemicals,
where unique pieces can be made from off-cuts. And very importantly, darling,
where no one is exploited, underpaid, or working in appalling or dangerous

One of our mottos is ‘Your clothes tell a story – make it a positive one’. But perhaps
my favourite one is this: ‘If you don’t know where it was made, what it is made from
or where it will end up, take it off.’
Oh, and the date of the actual Undress Runways event is Saturday 14 April, 2018.
So whether you’re a supporter who loves our cause and wants to be part of this
movement, or whether you’re a business person who would like to gain exposure to

Oh, and this year, in 2018, we are delighted to announce that Gemma Ward, 30
year-old Australian superstar and supermodel, is our patron. We cannot emphasise
how excited we are about this – Gemma, as of course everyone knows, darling – has
been splashed all over the covers of Vogue, Elle, Marie Claire – even Time Magazine!
She is also an actress (Black Balloon, Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides) –
and was considered the world’s number 2 model before she even turned 18! Now
this is a coup for us at Undress Runway, because it helps to validate our very
important mission of sustainability – to the whole world! Gemma is sure to draw
