MEDIA RELEASE LOGO

Name of Organisation (if not obvious on logo)
2 March, 2015
Headline in six words or less
The intro should summarise the most newsworthy point(s) of the release in less than
30 words and be attributed to a speaker if appropriate, according to the fictional
organisation spokesperson, Jane Smith. Media Relations 2515LHS – MEDIA RELEASE – VILLAGE ROAD SHOW STUDIOS.
Ms Smith said the headline and intro should be snappy and grab the reader’s attention.
The body copy of the release should be in a 12-point typeface. Media Relations 2515LHS – MEDIA RELEASE – VILLAGE ROAD SHOW STUDIOS.
“When making a direct quote, the person should be identified at the end of the first
quote,” Ms Smith said.
“The quote marks can be left open until the spokesperson has finished making direct
quotes. Media Relations 2515LHS – MEDIA RELEASE – VILLAGE ROAD SHOW STUDIOS.
“The quotation marks can be used to mark the end of direct speech. Importantly, you
should also have links to social media and other web resources for more information.”
The spokesperson needed to be reintroduced if direct quotes were broken up by other
text. Media Relations 2515LHS – MEDIA RELEASE – VILLAGE ROAD SHOW STUDIOS.
“In media releases there should only be one sentence per paragraph,” Ms Smith said.
“Quotes should keep to one paragraph with a line between each paragraph. Short
quotes are good. Short quotes or sentences can run together. ”
Media releases should be one page and remember to attribute claims or comments.
“Direct quotes are in present tense and indirect quotes are in past tense,” Ms Smith
said. Media Relations 2515LHS – MEDIA RELEASE – VILLAGE ROAD SHOW STUDIOS.
The media release should be written in the inverted pyramid style with news at the
start and back ground information toward the end.
Social media links would add value to your media release, particularly if they contain
video or images for broadcast. Media Relations 2515LHS – MEDIA RELEASE – VILLAGE ROAD SHOW STUDIOS.
