You are asked to prepare a one page media release for the Gold Coast/Brisbane
media based on the following (fictitious) information. The objective of the film
studio is to get as many uni students as possible as ‘extras’ in the concert segment,
finding a younger Bono and also announcing its pleasure of securing the
production. Media Release- Media Relations 2515LHS- Village Roadshow Studios.
OSCAR tells you:
We are very excited, honoured and pleased to announce the following really
good news that has been brought to our attention. The good news is that the very
famous rock band U2 will be making a film at the studios. The film will actually
star all the current U2 members. The film budget is a total of $300 million dollars
and the production would be one of the largest ever undertaken by us.
Production will start in April 2018, thereabouts.
Production will finish in December 2018 thereabouts. While in south east
queensland U2 band members will be staying at secret locations. I think (says
Oscar) it important to also mention or maybe really promote hard, that one
scene involves reproducing one of U2’s sell-out 360 concerts. We are inviting
Griffith University Students who are presently studying hard on the Gold Coast
and at Nathan to attend the filming as the audience and it will be free. They can
get the info from www.beinU2film.com.au . Details of the filming location, times
and other info will be on the site. Media Release- Media Relations 2515LHS- Village Roadshow Studios.
Filming this segment will be on a sealed off section of Surfers Paradise beach is
expected to take place during the mid-year academic break. 200 or more people
will be employed in the production of the film. It is being produced by Mel
Gibson and directed by James Cameron. It will be distributed by Paramount. The
release date is set for October 2019. Computer-generated effects will be done by
local Katie Western, who is 26. Her studio is at Southport and she worked on the
effects for the latest James Bond film. She currently works on contract for Village
Roadshow and tutors at the Griffith University film school.
Oscar continues: I am really excited about this production. It is a great boost for
the film industry on the coast. This will be one of the biggest productions at the
studios since we opened. I am so thrilled to have U2 giving us such a vote of
confidence in our production facilities. Media Release- Media Relations 2515LHS- Village Roadshow Studios.

Bono over skype tell you: I’m over the moon about living in QLD for a year while
filming and I want to visit the Great Barrier Reef, places like that. Everyone
knows I injured my arm in a bicycle accident in New York a while ago – but the
docs tell me I’m fine to get back on stage! It’s a bloody miracle – but I will play
the guitar again even with a titanium elbow!
U2 agreed to using Roadshow Studios after Oscar met with band management in
Los Angeles in October last year. The meeting was arranged by the Queensland
Government’s representative in the US at the time, Peter Beattie, who is a former
Premier with lots of contacts. Media Release- Media Relations 2515LHS- Village Roadshow Studios.
Oscar goes on to tell you that talent scouts will be visiting the university to find a
look-a-like Bono to act in one scene from his late teens. Oscar says the part will
pay $2000 for a 20 second appearance but it could lead to better things.
