Strategic project & quality management

Strategic project & quality management
Recent incident of Grenfell Tower and the Edinburgh schools have heighted the need
for urgent review of the way in which quality is managed within the construction
industry. These incidents were not isolated events and are happening the world over.
Change to the industry systems and culture is needed to restore quality as a priority
and to truly examine the causes of project and operational quality failure so that
mistakes are not made again.
Failure of quality, is arguably the most important issue facing the construction
industry today. Addressing quality issues is important for all organisations –
providers, users, and operations, and so a more effective delivery methods must be
found. You are asked to prepare a fully referenced academic paper that sets out
recommendations on how Quality Management (QM) could have been applied to
a specific case study to overcome its operational quality failure.
As such, you must select a specific failure case and hypothetically describe how QM
could have been used to address operational failure at project strategic level to
mitigate the occurrences of failure. Your response should incorporate the
context/setting of the selected project and can be from the construction sector or
further afield. You should select a case that is in the public domain and which
provides you with some evidence of Operational failure. Next, your paper should
reflect on the breadth of reading that you have done and describe how QM approaches
and tools could have hypothetically overcome and mitigate quality failure. In so doing
you should ensure that your paper has references to academic and professional
journals, books, internet and other credible sources.
