The social media has become one of the most important means of communication in the world. It has permeated to all areas of life. In the recent past, the growth in technology, especially increased adoption of the internet, has increased the number of people using internet enabled phones, and this has in return increased the number of people using the social media as a platform for social interaction (Kaplan & Haenlein, 2010). Although it was initially created for social use, the social media has however become an important tool for other social uses like gathering and dissemination of news (Bough & Agresta, 2011). It has become a preferred communication tool in journalism and public relations. A good example of success of use of social media is the case of Rukmini Callimachi, a journalist who uses the social media to permeate into the terrorists networks and gather important information about these terrorist organizations that she then communicates to the rest of the world (Roper, 2016).
